Captivating News
Captivating News
Carter Ross – 1/23/19
As of the last few years, news has become a lot more global and more and more shocking news from around the world has been grabbing our attention whether we like it or not. With the rise of Donald Trump and his presidency, every day seems to be filled with another insane story. Due to this increase in news coming from America, as well as social and political unrest around the world I am finding myself paying attention more now than ever.
As I am more interested in global issues than the issues of my hometown, I find myself getting my news from more global sources such as on the internet. I do not watch news networks on the TV such as NBC, CNN etc. as I find a lot of the television networks to have biases that can dramatically affect the quality and believability of their content. Instead, I get most of my news online, through articles posted on social media platforms like Reddit or through online news shows such as the Philip DeFranco show on YouTube, which presents news stories without bias.
As the news is becoming more volatile, I am finding myself more interested in the news than ever, yet at the same time, I find this constant barrage of headlines exhausting and hard to keep up with.
I think public relations is a very important aspect for Camosun College to consider. It is important to have the news on your good side in today’s world, as a bad headline or report can be devastating to a company’s reputation. Having a good relationship with news organizations and painting your company in a good light is very important to have a steady customer base, and Camosun would be smart to keep it close in mind.
